We are excited to announce The Chrysalis Project. A young artist will win the opportunity to curate and promote their own solo exhibition, with the support, guidance and experience of a working artist, Mona Whitton and the Arts & Culture Team.
The project is aimed at young artists aged 18-25 who are seeking to build their audience, develop their portfolio, and enhance their experience in working with galleries.
Competition Terms & Conditions:
Competition Prize:
· A week’s Art Exhibition at St George’s Arts Centre with no sales commission
· A year’s membership to the Artists Union including PPL insurance
Mentoring & Advice from a working Artist and the Arts & Culture Team in curating an exhibition including:
· Preparing artwork for exhibition – hanging/display; theme; info cards; lighting
· Pricing artwork
· Writing risk assessments
· Marketing – advertising / flyer design and marketing copy, artist biography
· Private viewing – who to invite / invitation design
· Event Management
· How to facilitate a creative workshop
Eligibility:
· Competition entrants are aged 18 – 25 years who either work/study or live in Gravesham
· The Artist has a large enough portfolio of artwork for a solo exhibition in the gallery space
· All artwork is original and does not infringe on copyrights
· The artist has not previously held a solo exhibition in an art gallery
Artwork:
· The artwork can be 2D or 3D media including but not restricted to painting, drawing, print, photography, collage, upcycling, recycled materials and sculpture
Submission Rules:
· Artists should submit a short description, (no longer than 1 page), about themselves and their artwork and why they would like to exhibit their work.
· Artists should submit no more than 6 images of their artwork giving their titles, mediums, sizes and any notes about the piece.
Judging Criteria:
Career aspirations, Artistic Merit, Creativity, Technical Skill, and Originality.
